Foi o bloqueio que forneceu o brilho inspirador inicial para a natureza não centrada em clubes de ‘Horizons’. Seu single inicial foi há mais de um ano e agora parece apenas a primeira de várias inspirações, em oposição ao seu único princípio orientador. Para criar um álbum que tivesse uma sensação totalmente diferente, a metodologia do estúdio de Giuseppe naturalmente teve que se adaptar. Talvez ainda mais desafiador, porém, ele também teve que explorar uma raça diferente de cantor e compositor para perceber isso. Para fazer isso, ele procurou vocalistas que eram praticamente desconhecidos no espaço do trance. Isso, por sua vez, garantiu que sua própria mão de produção fosse forçada criativamente, explodindo qualquer zona de conforto final na produção de música que pudesse existir. Em termos do corpo de trabalho com o qual ele chegou, você teria que se perguntar se até o próprio Giuseppe percebeu exatamente o quão evolucionário seria o produto final.

Das emoções em constante mudança da virada de Richard Walters em ‘Keep You Safe’, à sombria e bela ‘Won’t Matter Much’ com o cantor Treetalk, o álbum não tem medo de tocar esses temas mais profundos. Isso vale tanto para o lamento comovente de ‘Bittersweet’, cantado pela norueguesa Katrine Stenbekk e a assombrosa, mas nunca menos que intrigante ‘Silhuettes & Outlines’, emprestada pela voz de Jess Ball. Novos para os ouvidos também são os cortes instrumentais ‘Under Dark Skies’ e ‘Celsius’ que ressoam com o boom de estúdio de Giuseppe, juntamente com harmonias e frequências de alto desempenho. Sobre o álbum, e de fato ‘Horizons’ como um todo, Giuseppe comentou que … “fazer isso foi tão satisfatório quanto qualquer grande projeto que empreendi. Estou encantado com o resultado e sei que não há uma única faixa ao longo de dezoito anos que eu não assista daqui a vinte anos. Eu sabia que haveria um desafio maior para fazê-lo… mas olhando para trás, não tenho certeza se previ em que grau. Com algumas coisas na vida, porém, é melhor não saber! Cada faixa que chegou à conclusão que eu podia ouvir soava significativamente diferente de qualquer coisa que eu tinha feito antes. Isso tinha uma maneira de aumentar o nível artístico para cada um que se seguia. Um aspecto que eu particularmente amo em ‘Horizons’ é que ele tem uma única sensação e vibração que corre criativamente, vocalmente, liricamente, tonalmente e sonoramente.

É a coleção de álbuns mais ‘completa’ que eu fiz, e eu não poderia ter feito isso sem o incrivelmente talentoso grupo de cantores e compositores que se reuniram para isso.” Giuseppe continua dizendo que “como um sinal de sua ‘completude’ talvez, estou muito feliz que não só ‘Horizons’ como um todo estará disponível através dos canais digitais usuais, mas também em CD e – pela primeira vez em Álbum GO – em um vinil duplo de edição limitada. Acho que isso dará aos seguidores mais apaixonados do meu trabalho um item físico verdadeiramente especial para desfrutar do que considero uma coleção de música verdadeiramente especial. Quando eles tomam uma nova direção estilística, é raro que os próprios artistas subestimem isso. Giuseppe Ottaviani, no entanto, vê a música de mudança de mar que abrange seus dois álbuns ‘Horizons’ como mais uma “modificação” momentânea em seu som … E não uma que representa uma mudança permanente. No entanto, seria difícil pensar em um produtor nos últimos dez anos que deu um salto musical tão audacioso, notável e … bem … ‘all-in’ como o italiano.

It was lockdown that provided the initial inspirational gleaming for the non-club-centric nature of ‘Horizons’. Its get-go single was over a year ago though and it now feels like just the first of several inspirations, as opposed to its single guiding principle. To create an album that had a wholly different feel, the methodology of Giuseppe’s studio-craft naturally had to adapt. Perhaps even more challenging though, he also had to tap into a different breed of singer-songwriter in order to realise it. To do that, he searched for vocalists that were all-but unknown within the trance space. This in turn ensured that his own production hand was creatively forced, exploding any final music-making comfort zones that might exist.

In terms of the body of work he’s arrived with, you’d have to wonder if even Giuseppe himself realised exactly how evolutionary the end-product would be. From the ever-shifting emotions of Richard Walters’ turn on ‘Keep You Safe’, to the bleak-yet-beautiful ‘Won’t Matter Much’ with singer Treetalk, the album is unafraid to touch those deeper themes. That goes every bit as much for the stirring lament of ‘Bittersweet’, sung by Norway’s Katrine Stenbekk and the haunting, but never-less-than-intriguing ‘Silhouettes & Outlines’, lent voice by Jess Ball. New to the ear too are the instrumental cuts ‘Under Dark Skies’ and ‘Celsius’ which resound with Giuseppe’s studio boom, along with high-achieving harmonies and frequencies.

Of the album, and indeed ‘Horizons’ as a whole, Giuseppe commented that … “making this has been as satisfying as any major project I’ve undertaken. I’m delighted with how it turned out and I know there isn’t a single track across its eighteen that I won’t stand by in twenty years’ time. I knew there would be more of a challenge to making it … but looking back I’m not sure I anticipated to quite what degree. With some things in life though, it’s just better not to know!

Each track that reached completion I could hear sounded significantly different from anything I’d made before. That had a way of setting the artistic bar higher for each one that followed. One aspect I particularly love about ‘Horizons’ is that it has a single feel and vibe that runs creatively, vocally, lyrically, tonally and sonically through it. It is the most ‘complete’ album collection I’ve made, and I couldn’t have done it without the incredibly talented group of singers and songwriters that gathered for it.”

Giuseppe goes on to say that “as a sign of its ‘completeness’ perhaps, I’m delighted that not only will ‘Horizons’ as a whole be available through the usual digital channels, but also on CD and – in a first for a GO album – on a limited-edition double vinyl. I think this will give the most passionate followers of my work a truly special physical item with which to enjoy what I think is a truly special collection of music.”
